Calling it a trap writes off the deliberate choice of the family that wanted a yard, a quiet street and a mortgage they could carry. The car is what makes that arrangement work. A driveway gives a household a radius no bus map covers, on its own schedule. Transit gives a timetable. Hauling a week of groceries and two kids home by bus is the harder life.
