Paternity tests should be standard procedure, opt-out instead of opt-in
If the answer is obvious, the test costs you nothing.
This hill is unclaimed. Nobody is willing to die on it. Yet. First blood pending.
- Pay, and you hold it.
- Anyone can dethrone you for more.
- Every claim stays on the record.
No claims on the record.
The other side
The bill lands on the newborn's household. A default test makes declining an accusation, so nobody declines, and every birth arrives with a small formal doubt attached. Hospitals become disclosure machines. Fathers who never wondered get an answer they did not ask for, and some walk. The child pays that. Consent matters here. A cheek swab on a newborn is routine only to the person ordering it.
