Equal rights would end pig heart valves, guide dogs, sheepdogs on hill farms, and every animal trial standing between a childhood vaccine and the child. Someone pays that bill. Usually the sick. Rights arrive bundled with duties and consent, and a fox can neither give consent nor be held to a duty. Obligation to animals survives without pretending a heron is a citizen.
