DIE ON THIS HILL
society

Gatekeeping is valid and the mainstream ruins subcultures

Every scene you loved died the year it got popular.

This hill is unclaimed. Nobody is willing to die on it. Yet. First blood pending.

  • Pay, and you hold it.
  • Anyone can dethrone you for more.
  • Every claim stays on the record.

No claims on the record.

The other side

Gatekeeping began as safety. Small scenes were dangerous to be seen in, so vetting newcomers protected people who could be hurt. That risk faded. The habit outlived it, and what remains is a test written by whoever arrived first. Scenes stall when everyone admitted already knows the passwords. Popularity funds venues and pays the bands. The people who left were bored.
