Silence costs the school's call about a sick child, and the late night check on a parent living alone. Plenty of adults keep a ringer on because someone depends on reaching them within minutes, and a buzz buried in a coat pocket does not carry. That is a duty. Addiction describes reaching for a device with nothing waiting. An audible alert is a post being held.
