The person who takes revenge spends a portion of a life administering pain, and the debt never closes. Blood feuds run on exactly this logic. Each side remembers a fresher wound, so the ledger reopens onto children who did nothing. Courts exist because a wronged party makes a poor judge of proportion. Anger fades. What was done in its name stays done.
