The other side
A family writes a tuition cheque each August that would otherwise clear a mortgage, and the child sits in the same AP calculus syllabus taught down the road. Selective admissions do most of the work private schools take credit for. The fees buy classmates. Meanwhile the child commutes an hour past neighbours she never meets, and the money is gone whether the fit works or not.
