Office dress codes are class gatekeeping disguised as professionalism
This hill is unclaimed. Nobody is willing to die on it. Yet. First blood pending.
- Pay, and you hold it.
- Anyone can dethrone you for more.
- Every claim stays on the record.
No claims on the record.
The other side
Dress codes were written down because unwritten taste was doing the sorting. A stated rule can be read by anyone. Someone whose parents never held a desk job can buy two shirts and be correct, while a vague culture of dressing however feels right quietly rewards people who already know which shoes read as expensive. Standards are legible. Vibes are inherited.
